What would happen if you instantly went blind? What would happen if the rest of the world followed in your footsteps? That is where this particular story takes place. After an epidemic of white blindness starts claiming the sight of victims one right after the other, they must band together in order to survive. And with the helpful vision from one woman who has been miraculously spared, the others cling to the hope that they will eventually be cured.
Here's what I have to say about this movie. First - I love Julianne Moore, so I had high hopes. Second - I read the book recently and enjoyed it immensely, so my expectations were raised that much more. A couple things for me to pick at involve the music they used in the film (because none of it seemed to fit the scenes) and the lack of contacts that should have been used (because they all suffered an epidemic of "white blindness", I think that they could have worn white-colored contacts to make it more aesthetically believable -in my opinion).
Overall, I believe they did the best they could transferring from the book, but if you haven't read the novel first, there's quite a bit that isn't explained as well as it should be. What I enjoyed about both versions of the story however, was that it makes you question 'What if?' What if the government really began treating people like prisoners for something that wasn't their fault? What if you were separated from your loved ones when you went blind - could you find them again? Etc, etc. There truly is a great story here, but do yourself a favor and read the book first!
"Would Sandra Watch This?" YES (If you read the book first) NO (if you have not)
That's a wrap!
