Alexander, has had a crappy day. He woke up with gum in his hair, set his crush's lab notes on fire, and found out that next to one is coming to his 12th birthday party. His family on the other hand, has had nothing but good things going for them, so they are not quick to provide sympathy. In a passing birthday wish, Alexander wants his family to experience the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day that he's had, just once in their lives! And that's where we find the Cooper family...
I'm still a sucker for a good family flick every once in a while. The nostalgia of the movies I grew up with will always be there, but to watch new movies like this as an adult, sometimes just lacks that charm. Happily this one was full of it. Based on the children's book, the filmmakers manage to put the characters' mishaps into a crowd-pleasing comedy. I'm not sure if I will revisit this over and over, but it did make me laugh. Which is true to life, because you've got to find the good through the bad...
