Claire attends a support group for people suffering with chronic pain. When a fellow member commits suicide, it leaves the entire group awestruck and dumbfounded, namely Claire. She becomes slightly obsessed with the motives behind her friend's death, while grappling with the pain of one of her own personal tragedies.
I have a special place for Jennifer Aniston in my heart because as some of you may or may not know, FRIENDS is my favorite TV show. Ever. Period. So I will always have a fondness for her. That being said, even though she is Hollywood royalty, I feel as if she never takes on film roles that truly challenge her and help her breakaway from her iconic TV character (nor does she EVER do anything different to her hair, which bugs me, but that is neither here nor there). She did a great job in The Good Girl, and even delved a bit darker in Derailed, but outside of those -for me- it was always the same old, same old. After seeing this film, I could not be more impressed by her performance, and am highly disappointed that she wasn't nominated for an Oscar. However, there is such depth in her performance here, and at times you get lost not just in the story, but in her character specifically. I can't say enough good things about this movie. Let us all eat, and see Cake!
